This proposal updates EU organic rules on imports, labelling, certification, operator groups, cleaning products, and some livestock production requirements.
Who it affects
It affects organic farmers, food and feed processors, small retailers selling unpacked organic products, organic importers, third-country organic producers, and consumers buying organic products.
Core of the proposal
- Allows EU organic terms for equivalent third-country imports, with EU logo use subject to added requirements.
- Extends recognition of equivalent third countries from 31 December 2026 to 31 December 2036.
- Exempts small unpacked-organic retailers from certificates where direct annual sales stay within 10,000 kg.
- Adds quail rules and adjusts poultry outdoor access, poultry-house area, and veterinary withdrawal periods.
