It affects producers and businesses using protected geographical names for foods, wines, spirits, agricultural products, and craft or industrial products in the EU and third countries.
- Creates EU procedures to request international modifications of protected geographical indications.
- Requires requests after EU-approved changes to names, product classification, or geographical areas.
- Allows Member State-requested updates to quality, reputation, or characteristic details.
- Updates committee references and removes an older notification-sharing duty for certain Member States.

- The regulation enters into force on the twentieth day following publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

- art. 7(2): replaces paragraph 2 on decisions to grant protection

- art. 8(1): replaces paragraph 1 on effects of implementing acts and Office decisions
- art. 12(5): deletes paragraph 5
- art. 12a: adds Article 12a applying Article 30 of Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 mutatis mutandis
- art. 15(1): replaces paragraph 1 on assisting committees
