Who it affects
It affects EU fishing vessel owners, operators and crews working in Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean fisheries, especially tuna, shark and bluefin tuna fisheries.
Core of the proposal
- Sets a 5% per-species trip limit for tropical tuna bycatch by unauthorised vessels.
- Bans subsidies for vessels or owners listed on the SPRFMO illegal fishing vessel list.
- Introduces electronic observation and monitoring rules for NAFO vessels using observer derogations.
- Adds shark handling, release, retention and reporting rules in WCPFC and IOTC fisheries.
