Implementation into Union law of the latest measures adopted by regional fisheries management organisations

It affects EU fishing vessel owners, operators and crews working in Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean fisheries, especially tuna, shark and bluefin tuna fisheries.

• Sets a 5% per-species trip limit for tropical tuna bycatch by unauthorised vessels.
• Bans subsidies for vessels or owners listed on the SPRFMO illegal fishing vessel list.
• Introduces electronic observation and monitoring rules for NAFO vessels using observer derogations.
• Adds shark handling, release, retention and reporting rules in WCPFC and IOTC fisheries.

Takes effect

The Regulation enters into force on the twentieth day following publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Transitional law

WCPFC seabird-related requirements are extended to an additional area from 1 January 2028.
